The iPhone-dev team today released PwnageTool 4.2 that can be used to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 devices. PwnageTool 4.2 is an Untethered Jailbreak, and it will work on iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G S, iPod Touch 4G, 3G and iPad models. As per the dev team, PwnageTool 4.2 embodies the exploit used in GreenPois0n RC5 that was released last week by Chronic dev team.
(Update : Ultrasn0w 1.2 is now available for download in Cydia.) Apple yesterday released iPhone OS 3.0, which is now available as a download on iTunes. All those who are currently using a jailbroken iPhone should wait for the dev team to release new set jailbreak tools. The iPhone 3G unlock tool Yellosn0w has been renamed to Ultrasn0w, and dev team released a video confirming iPhone OS 3.0 unlock with Ultrasn0w. We need to jailbreak iPhone before unlocking with Ultrasn0w. The dev team had earlier confirmed that they would release jailbreak tools after official iPhone 3.0 release. And as firmware 3.0 is already released we expect a compatible QuickPWN or Pwnagetool version in 2-3 days. After jailbreaking iPhone OS 3.0, we will be able to unlock iPhone 3G with Ultrasn0w. Many developers had jailbroken iPhone 3G with OS 3.0 for installing unofficial app testing. But for unlocking, we need to download Ultrasn0w, which will be available tomorrow.
Apple released new iOS 4.2.1 firmware for iPhone 3G, 3G S and iPhone 4. The iOS 4.2.1 firmware includes multi-tasking, folders, Game Center, AirPlay, AirPrint and several other additions. All those who are using an iPhone 3G or 3G S unlocked versions can now upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 firmware as iPhone-Dev has released new jailbreak and unlock tools. The new Redsn0w 0.9.6 b6 is a tethered jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3G S new model and un-tethered jailbreak for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S old models. That means, all iPhone 3G and 3G S (old bootrom) users can use the latest Redsn0w jailbreak and proceed to Ultrasn0w unlock from Cydia.
