You might have seen star ratings in search results while looking for movie and software reviews in Google. These star ratings are inserted by the particular websites using rich snippets. Google announced the support for rich snippets long back in 2009. Rich snippets are intended to give extra information about an article; like author, publishing date, rating, price, etc. Wonder how you could add it your website? Well, if you are a blogger using WordPress platform you may add rich snippets to your posts using a plugin.

It has been three months since Google revealed their plans to develop an open source and cloud based operating system, Google Chrome OS. The Google Chrome OS mainly targets netbooks, and the internet enabled Smartphones. UNIX based Google Chrome OS will run on 32-bit processors and ARM CPUS that is used in mobile devices. The special feature of Google Chrome OS is that its cloud based. In a cloud environment, the user needs to be on the internet to enjoy the full benefits. Information, files, applications and all other things will reside on Google servers, and users need to be online to access them.

Google announced that they are internally testing a new version of Google search code named Caffeine . The launch of Bing ,its increasing and market share and their recent tie-up with Yahoo decreased the market share of Google to some extend .Though Yahoo and Microsoft cannot beat Google in search quality ,technology and infrastructure , it definite that they will gain some potential users in coming years .Google is aware of this .The new version of Google search is probably their answer to competitors .The new Google search in sandbox is now publicly available here .

Microsoft recently launched Bing search engine by renaming their two year old Live search. Bing is getting a mixed reaction from both public and geeks. I have already shared my experience on Bing, which is still worse in some aspects. However, it seems that Microsoft is putting the lot of efforts to bring a Google look alike in Bing. Bing now shows news results and indexes pages almost instantly. There is also an improvement in search speed. Another surprise is the traffic it brings. Recently, I have seen sudden depletion in my incoming search engine traffic from Yahoo and a rise from Bing side. So I was forced to sign up and Submit websites to Bing webmaster center, which earlier I ignored. Here I will share how you can sign up with Bing Webmaster center, submit a website /sitemap and to add Bing search box.

Sometimes we encounter situations like  the sudden unavailability of a website that we are looking for. Websites  might get deleted or will go down high traffic or server issues. A basic method to view unavailable website is to check the Google cache file of the URL. Instant results will be obtained if the deleted website is recent. Traces of unavailable websites would also be available on other search engines like Yahoo, MSN, etc. and the internet archive.
