Download link for the Ubuntu 11 Natty Narwhal Alpha, the upcoming version of the Popular Linux distribution is now online. Major Ubuntu versions are released on a six month time frame, and the Ubuntu 11 final will be launched by April of 2011. Until the version 10, Ubuntu used Genome as the default desktop interface. Ubuntu version 11 will have Canonical’s Unity shell interface over the GNOME desktop environment. Unity UI has a new window manager that is fast and responsive than the Genome version. Unity interface is currently available in Ubuntu Netbook edition 10.10.

It has been three months since Google revealed their plans to develop an open source and cloud based operating system, Google Chrome OS. The Google Chrome OS mainly targets netbooks, and the internet enabled Smartphones. UNIX based Google Chrome OS will run on 32-bit processors and ARM CPUS that is used in mobile devices. The special feature of Google Chrome OS is that its cloud based. In a cloud environment, the user needs to be on the internet to enjoy the full benefits. Information, files, applications and all other things will reside on Google servers, and users need to be online to access them.

Large files need to be split before they can be transferred over the internet. The continuity of the internet connection may not stable at every time. If some error happens in between an upload or download, the whole process has to be restarted again. File sharing sites like Rapidshare, MegaUpload, Hotfile, and others have  a limit on the size of the files are uploaded. In the internet, mostly we use RAR or ZIP to split files and join them later at the user end.

Google is now into another step to dominate the internet and computer software industry by announcing Google chrome OS .Google chrome web browser was launched almost 9 months ago and currently they have crossed veteran browsers like Opera and Safari in market shares . Google Chrome OS is also planned as open source venture just like the Chrome browser and will be available on GP license .Google Chrome OS is an extension to Chrome browser project and it would be cloud based .That is the OS works on web and all Google web services along with other web applications will be available via internet .Like in every Google service ,speed ,user friendliness etc. will be the main concern in new OS . Cost factor and non user friendliness of Mac OS and Linux might give an extra edge to Google Chrome OS . But it depends how Google design the user interface . Google chrome OS initially aims at spreading its wings on netbook market and they are currently on talks with manufactures for pushing the OS from 2010 onwards.
